2024-2025 Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Faculty Fellow

Overview

The Office for Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives is currently accepting applications for the HSI Faculty Fellow position in the 2024-2025 academic year.

The Office for HSI Initiatives in the University Relations division provides a centralized vision and guidance for maximizing the University of Central Florida’s HSI federal designation in a way that meaningfully serves students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external community members from diverse backgrounds. HSI Initiatives spearheads the development, implementation, and assessment of HSI goals and objectives to advance a culture of “servingness” across the institution. The office also works collaboratively with federal, UCF Foundation, and corporate partners to strengthen institutional capacity through grant-funded and philanthropic activities aimed at strengthening Minority Serving Institutions.

The Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program out of the U.S. Department of Education, provides grants to assist HSIs in expanding educational opportunities for, and improving the attainment of, Hispanic and low-income students, by expanding and enhancing academic offerings, program quality, and institutional stability. UCF was awarded a $2.99M DHSI grant in fall 2022 to implement Project POTENCIAL (Promoting Opportunities that Enhance Navigation, Completion, Inclusion, and Learning). The faculty development component of the grant accentuates institutional capacity building by providing faculty with a knowledge base and the tools to cultivate an intentional and inclusive learning environment for all students. The Office for HSI Initiatives invites nominations and applications for a one-year appointment as HSI Faculty Fellow, beginning in the summer 2024 semester.

The Office for HSI Initiatives will transfer to the Fellows’ home unit up to $10,000 per academic year for course replacement costs.  It is expected that a Fellow with teaching assignments will be released in whole or part from their instructional duties. If the fellow has a summer appointment, they will also receive a $5,000 administrative assignment. The Fellow will report to the Senior Director for HSI Initiatives, who also serves as the Project Director for POTENCIAL.

The HSI Faculty Fellow will develop and implement the faculty development component of Project POTENCIAL, including a Teaching and Learning Day HSI Workshop (FA24), a semester-long HSI Faculty Development Cohort Program (Learning Community) (SPR25) and the HSI-track during the FCTL Summer Faculty Development Institute (SUM25). The Fellow will collaborate with colleagues in the Office for Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives, Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning, Ginsburg Center for Inclusion and Community Engagement, and Division of Student Success and Well-Being, among other academic and administrative offices across campus.
